A man who was charged with killing the actress in a hit-and-run crash last year has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of careless driving causing death.
The man, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, appeared at Christchurch District Court on Tuesday afternoon. He had been charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death but he changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial in May.
Banes’ first major role was as the character Janey in the movie The Perfect Game. The film, which starred Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck, was based on the true story of professional baseball player Mark McGwire’s pursuit of a home run record in. After appearing in the movie, she appeared in Smallville and played one of Lois Lane’s friends on Smallville. She also had a small part in The Shawshank Redemption.
Banes was born in Long Beach, California. She attended San Diego State University and studied drama at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
