The Click Times: According to information made public by the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday, the number of confirmed cases of monkeypox has topped 59,100 worldwide. The outbreak, which was initially identified in Europe in late April, has already spread to 102 countries, with the great majority of cases occurring in nations with little to no prior history of the unusual virus.
In 2022, the CDC confirmed 18 deaths caused by the illness outside of the United States. However, the United States is home to the biggest monkeypox outbreak in the world.
According to the CDC, as of Tuesday, there were 22,630 confirmed cases of monkeypox/orthopoxvirus in the country. Top of the list states with a high density of people: California, with 4,300 verified cases, and New York, with 3,679.
California death due to monkeypox; Texas death was suspected earlier
The cause of death was established by an autopsy, according to a Monday announcement from the Los Angeles County health department that a resident had died from monkeypox. According to officials, the patient was hospitalized because of a serious immunodeficiency.
Health officials are also looking into whether monkeypox contributed to the death of an adult in Texas in August, which may be the first case of the disease ever reported in the country. According to the Texas Department of Health Services, the patient’s immune system was also seriously damaged.
