Walmart Launches Virtual Try-On Experience

Walmart Launches Virtual Try-On Experience - The Click Times

The Click Times: Walmart has launched a new virtual try-on experience for its website, allowing users to try on clothes without having to go to the store.

The website will allow users to upload a photo of their body and then select from more than 1,000 different items in the store’s online catalog, according to the company.

A video explains how it works: “When you upload a photo, our system will analyze your body shape and size and select the best-fitting items,” Walmart says on its website.

“We have thousands of styles available for you to choose from,” it adds. “You can even try on pants before purchasing them.”

The feature is currently available in the women’s section of Walmart.com, allows users to upload a selfie and then try on clothes or shoes in 3D and will be rolled out to other categories over time.

The app uses facial recognition technology to scan the user’s face and determine what size they would be wearing in the image. It then shows how they would fit into the item they are trying on, using a virtual representation of their body.

Walmart says it has received over 4 million requests for virtual try-ons since launching the service in October last year.

“We know our customers love shopping online, but sometimes they don’t have the time or desire to visit a store,” said Barbara Stephens, vice president and president of eCommerce at Walmart U.S., in a statement. “That’s why we’re excited to offer this new virtual try-on experience as an added convenience for our customers.”

The retailer said the new service will be available for select brands like J Brand and Lee Jeans (both owned by Walmart) and Eloquii. Customers can use their mobile phone or computer to access Virtual Try-On, which will allow them to choose from more than 125 items and then have them sent directly to their home.

Walmart said this will be the first time that customers can try on products from multiple brands at once — something that’s not currently available in stores.

The “Be Your Own Model” technology allows customers to utilise their own photos to better picture how apparel will appear on them, bringing the in-store fitting room experience to online shoppers.

Be Your Own Model promises to show customers an incredibly realistic simulation with shadows, fabric draping, and where clothing falls on their figure in a matter of seconds, in contrast to other experiences that typically layer a photo of an item on top of another image to make it appear computer-generated. Customers can view apparel on themselves by simply clicking the “Try It On” button on the item page to access the feature.

More than 270,000 products from Walmart’s portfolio of exclusive brands and private labels, such as Free Assembly, Scoop, Sofia Jeans and Sofia Active by Sofia Vergara, Love & Sports, Terra & Sky, and others, now have the functionality available. The new experience also includes a few goods from a few of Walmart’s national brands, like Champion, Levi’s, and Hanes, as well as some items on the Walmart Marketplace.

Following the purchase and setup of the Zeekit virtual try-on platform, the launch takes place. It debuted the initial iteration of the technology known as “Choose My Model” earlier this year, and the response from customers was outstanding.

The biggest and closest store to our clients, in our opinion, is the one they carry in their pockets. Walmart continues to provide customers with an unmatched experience that makes it simpler to shop for garments online with both virtual try-on experiences now operational, the company said in a news release.
