US President Joe Biden warned on Thursday that the risk of a Russian invasion of Ukraine remains high.
In an interview with NBC News, Biden stated that all US citizens who are still in Ukraine should “go now.”
Regarding the risk of conflict, Biden told NBC News, “It’s not like we’re dealing with a terrorist organization. We are dealing with one of the largest armies in the world (referring to Russia). It’s a completely different situation. and things could get crazy fast.
Biden ruled out the possibility of sending US troops to Ukraine to rescue fleeing citizens. Biden said, “There is no [way to send American troops]. This is a world war in which the Americans and Russia start shooting at each other. other. We are in a very different world than ever before.
Biden claimed he told Russian President Vladimir Putin that even if he was “stupid enough to go [to Ukraine], he was smart enough not to.” In fact, do anything that negatively impacts American citizens.”
State Department advisory
The US State Department issued a statement Thursday saying the US “will not be able to evacuate US citizens in the event of Russian military action anywhere in Ukraine.” The State Department pointed out that regular consular services such as assistance with evacuations, would be affected.
US intelligence estimates, a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine could reach Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, within 48 hours.
The US sends additional forces to Poland to support possible evacuations from Ukraine. the nearly 2,000 US troops in Poland to help Americans who may try to evacuate Ukraine if Russia invades, according to two US officials familiar with the matter,” CNN reported on Thursday.
Forces in Poland would be stationed at the Polish-Ukrainian border to help US citizens escape. “The facilities are not yet operational, a defense official said, but they will begin when more U.S. troops arrive in Poland,” CNN reported.
