The Click Times: Pen is mightier than the sword is a famous proverb, that indicates the power of writing. This means that , a pen has the power to achieve than a sword does. A king can rule only his kingdom, but a poet or writer can rule the whole world through his/ her inspirational writings. The power of pen is more influential through its proper communication than the power of hatred, war, conflict and destruction. In conclusion, we can solve the problems more effectively through words of writing communication than by violence . Hence a pen is more powerful than a violent sword.

Origin of the proverb:

The Phrase was first penned by the English author Edward Bulwer Lytton in the year 1839. Edward had written it for one of his plays titled ‘Richelieu’ or ‘the conspiracy’.The play was based on the life of a French Statesman ‘Cardinal Richelieu’.

Dialogues are spoken by Cardinal in the Act II of the Play mention the proverb:-

“True, This!-

Beneath the rule of men entirely great. The pen is mightier than the Sword. Behold The arch enchanters-wand! – itself is nothing:-

But taking sorcery from the master-hand To paralyse the Caesars, and to strike The loud earth breathless!- take away the sword –
States can be saved without it!”

The line ‘pen is mightier than the sword’ became immensely popular and is widely use even today

Expansion of the Proverb:

The proverb states that a form of written communication is more powerful than physical prowess. Many revolts in history have been instigated by an effectively written speech or through postings in newspapers. Words are more worthy than the sword.
It means that the impact written words has on the mind and soul of the reader,is way more than any physical activity.
Words impact deep and are more effective.
